Municipal police in Greece - ΔΗΜΟΤΙΚΉ ΑΣΤΥΝΟΜΊΑ
having considered in the previous articles experience of municipal police at our closest neighbors, in the countries of the former USSR and Eastern Europe and having summed up the preliminary results, we move further towards Western Europe.
In Greece the municipal police for the first time appeared in 2002, with adoption of the relevant regulations, about its creation and regulation of its activity. It should be noted that for the short history (a little more than 15 years), the municipal police in Greece was already managed to be abolished once completely, in 2013, and then in 2015 to create again.
Divisions of municipal police are created by the decision of local governments, but here regarding regulation of its activity the state has a big role. Upon in Greece the municipal police is created rather as auxiliary force for the state police, for prevention and suppression of widespread small offenses, such, for example, as the wrong parking of transport.

in Greece the municipal police according to the legislation performs the following functions, controls observance:
- requirements of the local legislation;
- sanitary condition of streets and rooms;
- rules of use of reservoirs, water supply systems and waste systems;
- construction standards;
- rules of placement of the advertizing structures, signs and information plates;
- rules of carrying out roadwork;
- rules of work of movie theaters, cafe, restaurants and shops;
- fire safety requirements;
- rules of keeping of pets.

put before municipal police in Greece have very indirect relation to police tasks. Apparently on the above-stated functionality it is rather not the police, but municipal inspectors monitoring observance of municipal laws and the restrictions set by them in all spheres of municipal economy.
From police tasks the following is assigned to municipal police in the cities of Greece:
- participation in ensuring public order;
- regulation and control of observance of traffic regulations;
- control of observance of rules of the parking of cars (for some reason this point always registers in the countries of Europe separately, perhaps in the administrative legislation it is allocated in separate group from other violations of traffic regulations);
- control of observance of the migration legislation by foreign citizens and tourists;
- suppression of the facts of illegal street trade;
- drawing up protocols on local administrative offenses;
- protection of municipal property;
- assistance of the state police when performing of the tasks assigned to it.

According to the law the municipal police of Greece has powers to stop offenses and to delay the persons who made them. For drawing up the protocol or transfer to the staff of the state police, depending on weight of offense. Here only these powers are very conditional. The matter is that the staff of municipal police is dressed in a uniform which has explicit differences from a form of the state police, they are not armed, and I find have also no special means for active defense. And to use physical force and the available special means they can only as self-defense. Important also the fact that criminals know all this too respectively understand that if on site crimes them are overtaken by patrol of municipal police, then these "police officers" do not constitute any serious danger to them.

in general it is possible to draw a conclusion that the municipal police of Greece despite the name, has very indirect relation to police functionality. It is rather executive body of local government in competence of which more administrative tasks, than law-enforcement.
If to compare municipal police of Greece to other countries which we considered in the previous articles then on the tasks and opportunities she most of all reminds similar service in Estonia or Serbia.
